The WiPi Modem Emulator is a full-featured Serial Modem Emulator for old PCs! Based on a Raspberry Pi Zero, this device emulates a Serial Modem to allow older PCs to connect via WiFi to a BBS. Computers capable of using PPP connections can even dial up to a Virtual ISP, allowing full TCP/IP Internet Access!
The WiPi Modem features a switch on the back to select between Modem Emulation, and Linux terminal access. The Linux terminal allows you to log into the Raspberry Pi over a serial connection, providing access to all configuration files to customize the modem to your liking. Hostnames can be added to an address book, WiFi access points can be scanned and connected to, the baud rate and terminal type can be changed, and you can make even directly use the Raspberry Pi to make connections via SSH and other newer protocols.
The exterior of the WiPi Modem is a small, durable, 3D printed case just large enough to house the Raspberry Pi Zero along with a DB9 Serial Connector, one Micro-USB port to power the device, and a Micro SD card. The back of the device houses a mode select switch, along with a single button to safely shutdown and startup the device.
